Question:

I made $40 working for my dad last week and he paid me with two $20 bills. One is a new bill and the other is old. They look really different. Why did they change the new bill?

Good question, David, I just studied this in one of my classes so let me see if I can help. You would be surprised at all the attempts that are made to copy or counterfeit U.S. currency. The United States is always trying to stay one step ahead of the bad guys. To try to slow these criminals down, the federal government introduced the new $20 bill in October 2003. This is the most secure money in history! Check it out!

The new bills are the same size and still have the portrait of Andrew Jackson on the front and a picture of the White House on the back, but that's about all that is the same between the new and the old bills. The new bills have all kinds of cool features that make them almost impossible to copy, like color-shifting ink, watermarks, security threads and much more. Did You Know?

New currencies all over the world are starting to use the same pattern of dots called the EURion constellation in order to prevent counterfeiting!
