I'm bad at this,
just ask anyone who knows me. Money comes into my hand and flies out the very next minute. I'll tell you one
thing though; having a pile of saved-up money gives you power!
I
don't mean Harry Potter-type power, but think about it for
a second. How would you like to not be at the mercy
of your big brother or sister when you need to buy something
you've just got to have? Or how about being able to
get the latest Playstation 2 game before any of your
friends? Saving money gives you power for the future.
So
what is the best way to save up your money? There are a lot
of different methods out there, let me tell you. Some people
even have someone save it for them and give that person
a cut of the money!
I'll
give you a secret. It's the way I try and save, and
it usually works out. Lean closer to the monitor and
I'll whisper it to you.
Pay
yourself first
What, couldn't hear it? Okay, listen again.
Pay
yourself first
Eh?
Pay
yourself first!!!
That's
right, make sure that the first thing you do when you
get some money, is to put aside whatever percent or
amount into your piggy bank or savings account or whatever
you use. You know as well as I do that things always
come up during the month that can suck your pile o' money
down to nothing!
A
lot of people wait until the end of the month, when
they're all done paying their bills and going out to eat 2
dozen times, to put their money into savings. Then they find
out the horrible truth: they spent all of their savings
for the month!
You
need to pay your "real" bills every month, why not
make yourself a priority just like everyone else you
owe money to? Trust me, your savings will grow.
Another
thing you can do is to ask your parents if they'll match
the money that you put into savings. That is, if you put in
$10 a month, they match that with $10. If your folks know
that you're serious about saving money, they should
be anxious to help you.
Happy Saving!
